Jinty Stockings was born into an artistic and creative Scottish family, educated in Egypt and Scotland, where art at school emphasized sound drawing techniques. Her appreciation for beauty and excellence was instilled from an early age, and drawing and painting were her favourite subjects. While training as a nurse and midwife in Scotland, and working in Saudi Arabia and on passenger ships as a nurse, she continued to paint and then develop her own style of creative sewing. From 1970 she designed hand-made exclusive evening skirts for Harrods, London.
In 1974, married with a son, she moved with her husband to Australia, settling on the Blackall Range, Queensland. Continuing to work with textiles, she opened 'The Silk Shop' in Montville in 1985, making individual couturier outfits. Meeting like-minded artists she attended workshops on a regular basis in the 1990's. Invited to join a group of painters, Jinty experienced painting 'en plein air' for the first time, travelling to the outback and to other parts of Queensland. This helped to develop and enforce her desire to concentrate on painting. Jinty had two sell-out exhibitions following these expeditions. This has led to multimedia techniques and at present she is specialising in outdoor art with botanical themes.
Jinty's designer clothes and art work can be found in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Scotland and Denmark.
