Background

An exciting, unique and challenging opportunity has been created by local identities and professional writing team, John Cundill and Paul Coppens. Their new musical comedy 'Up the Tiber Without a Toga' (an hilarious romp set in ancient Rome) is to be staged at the Caloundra Events Centre on the Sunshine Coast for a season of five nights, with opening night on Friday 15th October.

The Rotary Club of Maleny is assisting and supporting a newly formed company ' Tiber Productions Fund Limited; a not for profit company specifically established for the purpose of promoting and staging the production. The professional creative team is assembling a world class, professional artistic ensemble and Tiber Productions Fund Limited is to run the production. At completion of the season, it will distribute all profits to Rotary's international humanitarian programs, namely The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS).

Vision

Tiber Productions Fund Ltd intends to fund all developmental and production costs. After all performances conclude the company's charter specifically states that all proceeds, after costs will be distributed to TRF and RAWCS. These two charitable, tax exempt organisations fund and monitor essential global humanitarian, health and education and poverty reduction programs, such as Polio Plus and 'Rotary Against Malaria'. Tiber Productions Fund Limited is pleased that it can play its small part in tackling diseases that affect the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in the world today.

Structure

A not for profit company, Tiber Productions Fund Limited has five directors, three from Rotary, who have had business careers at or near CEO level, and two other artistic professionals who bring extensive theatre production and event publicity and promotions experience. The board has an independent treasurer reporting to the board, backed by a volunteer accountant and registered company auditor. No fees are paid to directors or the creators.

Partnership

Tiber Productions Fund Limited is assisted by the Rotary Club of Maleny Inc by way of supporting the production schedule with a myriad of volunteer tasks, expertise and organisational talent. While the creators are currently seeking high quality lead soloists and preparing for auditions, the company is working on marketing and promotion strategies, sponsorship opportunities as well as organising venues for rehearsals, and the development of stage sets, costume production, souvenir programme etc.

Rick Vickers

Rick Vickers was a co-founder of an SME dealing in strategic planning, knowledge management and business optimisation.

For seven years as one of three principals, he has jointly overseen the annual growth and profitability of a group of companies in Australia, the United States and Southeast Asia.

As the Queensland regional General Manager he was responsible for business in Queensland, Northern Territory and South West Pacific. As a director on the board he provided oversight of business across the Group.

Rick now runs his own consultancy specialising in community safety, business continuity and emergency management.

He is an effective executive leader who has over 40 years experience in the public and private sectors. He is an experienced facilitator, change manager and program director and has achieved significant outcomes not only in managing multi-level programs but also in leading effective teams in a range of organisations. He has demonstrated an ability to deal with complex and often sensitive problems.

Rick has highly developed written communication skills and is a logical, reasoned and persuasive presenter. He has excellent people management skills as a result of work in numerous and diverse cultural environments.

Greg has over 34 years experience in the financial services sector, incorporating working for over 6 years in credit unions in executive and CEO positions as well as a range of executive positions spanning over nearly 11 years with Australia's peak Credit Union body, Credit Union Services Corporation Australia Limited (CUSCAL).

Greg's experience incorporates over 16 years experience in treasury operations and funds management.

Gail Denver

Director

For 30 years Gail has operated Maverick Musicals & Plays Pty. Ltd, an international musicals and play publishing and agency rights company that she developed. Before the advent of the internet, the company had a branch office in the UK. Maverick Musicals was one of the first publishing companies in Australia to develop a large website as a tool for distribution and marketing of scripts and rights: www.mavmuse.com and is one of the leading performing arts publishers in Australia.

Gail is a producer of amateur theatre productions, including work in Brisbane's Twelfth Night Theatre, Brisbane Schonell Theatre and Caloundra Events Centre. She has produced more than 30 community theatrical shows in various venues in Maleny and has a strong marketing background. Maverick Musicals is one of the major sponsors of the Noosa Long Week-end (Noosa One Act Playwriting Competition) and the Sunshine Coast One Act Play Festival.

David Crewe

Director

David Crewe is a former journalist and editor, and subsequently owned and ran a marketing and public relations agency in London for over 20 years. During this time he wrote numerous short plays, revues and promotional presentations for a wide range of clients which were performed professionally across the UK.

He first retired to the tiny Island of Gozo, Malta. While there he wrote the musical drama 'Besieged!', which is about the Turkish attack on the island in 1551, and which has now been performed twice in a concert version, and is planned to be filmed as a tourist promotion.

He and his wife Helen arrived in Maleny last year, and the ink was hardly dry on his play The Trial of Dr Millicent Mandeville before the Maleny Players decided to put it on to sell-out audiences. He is currently writing the Players' Christmas pantomime ' Cinderella Part Two: She Marries the Prince then what?

Angela Griffin

Angela Griffin is a specialist in public sector governance.

During a distinguished career in local government in Britain and New Zealand, she held three positions of chief executive of local authorities, accountable for millions of dollars of assets and services. Since 1998 she has worked in the field of international aid, managing multi-million dollar programs and projects designed to assist and support the capacity of sub-national governments, national entities and NGO's to improve service delivery to the population, most recently in South Africa and Papua New Guinea.

Governance positions she has held include: Board member of Rotary Clubs of Maleny and of Port Moresby, PNG; President of Rotary Club of Hatfield Pretoria, South Africa; Board Member of Jobs Have Priority, an NGO in Washington DC; A Fellow, Deputy Chair and board member of Wellington Branch of NZ Institute of Management; Joint Founder and Director of Women's Enterprise Development Agency in UK; Chair of West Midlands Branch of UK Society of Local Authority Chief Executives; Member of Editorial Board of Institute of Local Government at the University of Birmingham, UK.

Robert Hall

Robert Hall graduated in Science (Geology) from the University of Tasmania and undertook post graduate studies at the Imperial College in London graduating with a Masters Degree in Mineral Exploration Science.

His field exploration career led to senior management positions in both exploration and mining geology with MIM Holdings Limited throughout Australia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. Bob subsequently moved into oil and gas exploration, development and production responsibilities in Papua New Guinea and Indonesia, with Santos Limited. He has worked extensively in Australia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. He retired from corporate life in 2003 and he and his wife Sue, moved to Maleny onto land they acquired in 1988.

Joining the Rotary Club of Maleny, Bob has been International Director from mid 2008 to mid 2010. He is also Secretary of the Maleny Golf Club and an invited participant in the SCRC, Maleny Precinct Working Group and was allocated the role of representing Community Facilities on that working group for the duration the SCRC's Master Planning Process.
